Independent Study
Architected by Kenton Vizdos, Co-Founder & Chief Architect.
Credit recovery, accredited online coursework, summer school, home-school support, recovery center enrollment, or students juggling a demanding travel schedule — Independent Study is a solution for students outside the traditional classroom.
We built it around counselors: real-time visibility into student progress, and downloadable official transcripts that drop into the SIS you already run rather than a system you’d have to adopt. It runs inside Blueprint Education as Blueprint Independent Study, with about 130 self-paced courses, many of them NCAA-approved. This page walks through the experience from both sides of the purchase.
Three steps, for everyone involved
-
Buy a course
A student, parent or counselor adds it to a cart and checks out. Nothing starts yet.
-
Activate and work at your own pace
The clock begins on activation, not purchase.
-
Pass a proctored final exam
The counselor can download the transcript right away.
For counselors
The counselor’s problem is rarely the course. It is knowing which course fits, whether the student is moving, and getting the credit onto the record without a chase.
- Pick the right course. The catalog is filtered for the three common reasons: credit recovery, NCAA eligibility for student-athletes, and ordinary enrichment or schedule flexibility. Most courses come in Standard, Honors and credit-recovery versions.
- Have your own account. Counselors request an account on the counselors page, separate from the student’s login.
- See progress as it happens. You do not wait for a grade report to learn a student has stalled.
- Get the transcript the day the exam is passed. It downloads as an official transcript, and it is built to drop into the student information system you already run.
For students and parents
- Parents can follow along. Give a parent email at purchase and the parent can track progress and grades.
- Start when you are ready. Buy any time of year, activate when you can begin.
- Book the exam like an appointment. Proctored finals are scheduled in advance, in person or with a virtual proctor.
Questions and answers
Can a student start at any time of year?
Yes. Enrollment is open year-round. A student can buy a course at any time, then activates it separately when ready to start, so the clock does not run before they begin.
How long does a course take?
A course is designed to take about 60 hours. The student has 8 weeks from activation, or 12 weeks for Honors and most Foreign Language courses. Assignments are graded within 2 business days.
How are final exams handled?
A passing final exam is required to pass the course, and every exam has a proctor, in person or virtual. Students book the time through a scheduling system built into the course platform.
Is this something our district can buy from Edvizion?
No. Edvizion is not taking on contracted development for schools. The system was built and runs inside Blueprint Education, and EdTech companies can license it into their own product. This page shows how it works for the people who use it.
Built and run inside a real school district, not a demo. Edvizion is not taking on contracted development for schools today — this is here as evidence of the work, and of what we learned doing it. EdTech companies can license it into their own product.
